LEGISLATIVE AGENDA
We are introducing the Cancer Patient Protection Act CPPA, state level consumer protection legislation that guarantees every cancer patient an independent Healthcare Steward at the moment of diagnosis. This steward serves the patient alone. Their role is to intervene against insurance obstruction, prevent treatment delays, and reduce the financial harm that so often accompanies cancer care.
Qualified cancer patients receive a certified, independent Healthcare Steward whose sole responsibility is protecting the patient. The steward navigates insurance barriers, challenges administrative obstruction, and helps ensure patients reach appropriate care without being worn down or priced out.
CPPA establishes clear limits on insurance denials, delays and appeals in cancer care. When treatment is prescribed, care proceeds. Administrative disputes cannot pause or derail medically necessary treatment, removing prior authorization as a barrier to timely care.
CPPA prevents surprise costs tied to essential cancer care including transportation, fertility preservation, mental health services, and ongoing supportive treatment. Families retain financial stability while patients focus on treatment rather than debt.
